Remembering the Holocaust - lest we forget...

Post by Susan on Fri May 02, 2008 9:34 am

I have shared many times about a customer that I had in NY that had the tattoo number that was given to him in the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. He was a small boy then, and all his family died in gas chambers. He was the lone surviver of his family, and he questions GOD about why he was saved, and none of the other members of his family He questioned why so many jews had died, because of their religion and race. I told him that GOD was using him as a witness to what happened so that this will never happen again...

    A reminder:

US Supreme Court won't block Demjanjuk's deportation

    Excerpt:

The US Justice Department said Monday that an alleged former Nazi death camp guard has exhausted all legal avenues for trying to remain in the United States and the government remains committed to deporting him.

John Demjanjuk, left, is helped as he arrives for a deportation hearing at the federal office building.

The department commented after the Supreme Court refused to step into the case of 88-year-old John Demjanjuk.

Should Auschwitz be left to decay?

On the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, two experts on Auschwitz argue for and against the idea that the former Nazi death camp should be allowed to crumble away.

'I Will Not Travel to Auschwitz'
Bishop Richard Williamson's denial of the Holocaust has done serious damage to the Catholic Church. In an e-mail and fax exchange with SPIEGEL, the ultra-conservative bishop says that he is willing to "review the historical evidence."

    French Holocaust role recognised

Between 1942 and 1944, some 76,000 French Jews were deported.

France's highest court has recognised the state's "responsibility" for the deportation of Jews in World War II.

Tattoos From Auschwitz Horror Reunite Lost Inmates

JERUSALEM — As terrified teenagers 65 years ago, Menachem Sholowicz and Anshel Sieradzki stood in line together in Auschwitz, having serial numbers tattooed on their arms. Sholowicz was B-14594; Sieradzki was B-14595.

Holocaust Museum: No words to express our grief and shock

    Excerpt:

The United States Holocaust Museum Director on Thursday expressed her shock at the fatal shooting that took place at the museum the day before, saying "obviously, there are no words to express our grief and shock."

Sara Bloomfield described Stephen T. Johns, the security guard killed when a neo-Nazi opened fire in the museum as "a great friend who greeted us every day with a wonderful smile - and he will be missed."

    http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1091875.html

I am deeply saddened by this attack. Praying for the family of the security gaurd that was murdered.

WATCH / Only existing film footage of Anne Frank http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1118437.html

July 22 1941. The girl next door is getting married. Anne Frank is leaning out of the window of her house in Amsterdam to get a good look at the bride and groom. It is the only time Anne Frank has ever been captured on film. At the time of her wedding, the bride lived on the second floor at Merwedeplein 39. The Frank family lived at number 37, also on the second floor. The Anne Frank House can offer you this film footage thanks to the cooperation of the couple.
